Information on Halcyondale

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Central of Georgia Railway Historical Soc : One Thread

I am looking for any information, pictures, etc. concerning the Central of Georgia Station No. 5, later named Halcyondale, GA. My grandmother was born and raised there and her father was the station master, last name MaComber. I have a few sketchy details from the GA state webmaster. They are as follows: "The former community of Halcyondale is in Screven County about 15 miles south of Sylvania. When the Central of Georgia Railroad was built through the area in the 1830s and 1840s the community was established as Station No. 5. It was renamed Halcyondale later. It lies on the railroad about 3 miles west of Oliver, which is a place at the intersection of Georgia Highways 17 and 24". Any additional information on Halcyondale would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mike Cook

The Central of Georgia Official List for April 1, 1937, shows W. F. Macomber as "caretaker" at Halcyondale, GA. The station is shown as a flag stop, has no telegraph call (at least by that time) ans shows sidings with a combined capacity of 91 cars. The population of the town at that time is shown as 111.

Hope this info helps.
