Round up of the papers on Sunday

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

1) Ferguson will agree to cut his wages by 50% to go back to Everton. 2) We have agreed terms with Yalcin. 3) Great photo of the ground and much praise of it by Freddie Shepherd. Much praise by the paper, too, to be fair. 4) However, pride of place goes to the Brits v Foreigners story in the People (I think). Shearer, Lee, Barton and Spped travelled in exec last week while "those lower down the food chain" had to travel in business class to the States. Don't ya just love close season?

Oh, and business class is sooooo awful! My heart bleeds. Not. ;-)
Whats this about Dunc now? He can't leave! He probably won't say anything, but I'll try to ask him about it if I make it to training tomorrow. Or should I say if THEY make it. ;-)))

Well, it was in three of the Sunday tabloids but I really can't imagine Ferguson being the States if he was being flogged... I think the paper were trying to make out a bit of a "Shearer mafia" thing about him getting the best seats with his cronies. Also, forgot to say that Nobby is joining Everton, too.

Dougal.....what paper had the photo of the ground....I wanna see it.

It's either The NOTW, The Mirror or The People. I think it's The Mirror. Shepherd seen sporting a rather fetching hard hat - whether to deflect falling debris from the building work or the abuse he ritually gets reamins unknown.

Well you never know. Things could have changed while they're over here. Unless Dunc's picked up another knock, I don't know why else he wouldn't have played. Everyone that was fit got a run out, I think. He trained pretty hard on Thursday and was throwing himself about a bit, so maybe did something then?

Well, there are stories that we are buying Jason Euell.. You can see the desperation, can't you? Everton revolution. Toon wanna sell players. Everton buy Ferguson. Toon need replacement for Ferguson. Carl Cort can play with Jason Euell. Hey, presto - a story! I think it's cack, myself!

Sunderland are reportedly ready to smash their transfer record by signing French international midfielder Claude Makelele from Spanish club Celta Vigo in a #10m deal. The 27-year-old is also attracting the interest of Valencia and Arsenal.

So, Makelele could mak a makem!

Makems wouldn't know what #10m looked like.

This is more like it!

SUNDERLAND boss Monkey Heed expects to tie up the #1 million signing of Slovan Bratislava defender Stanislav Varga this week, although Claude Makelele seems unlikely to be heading to The Stadium of Light.

Varga played in a 3-0 defeat against Havre AC and, despite the result, he did enough to persuade Reid to follow up his interest in the giant stopper.

"Stan showed he can handle a ball," said Heed. "He passes it very well and he's strong in defence.

"Hopefully, we can sort out the deal this week."

However, the move for Celta Vigo star Makelele seems doomed to failure. The Spanish side are holding out for a massive sum for the midfielder, believed to be in the region of #12 million, and he is likely to be out of Reid's reach.

The Mackems boss admitted he has made an enquiry for the player, but it appears as though he will have to look elsewhere for another new signing.

Meanwhile, Nicky Summerbee is holding talks with Bradford over his proposed move to Bradford.
