I wrote this poem about the last episode of season six.

This is about Dr. Carter's situation. Sorry I thought this whole doctor on drugs concept would make a great poem.

This Doctors Life

Saving lives day or night, it's what he's paid to do With little sleep and always on call he somehow pulls through Happy times when he saves a life from coming to an end Overcomes the guilt of when a life is lost and his heart is on the mend

But the pressures on for him to succeed and to keep pressing on To get on with work and try not to think even though a life is gone It's not always easy to put it behind and his emotions get in the way His head in his hands as he softly cries "Oh God what a day!"

He thought he could cope with the stress of the job and he thought he'd be alright But he can't help but think "what if"..."what if" and he can't sleep at night But it's too late now and he's left with the guilt for the death of a person's life He will carry the burden forever and ever knowing he killed someones wife

He cannot go on with these thoughts in his head and the guilty feeling on his back He finds left over pills and starts taking them regularly as his life slowly goes off track Starts with a couple a day then builds up too more and soon he's injecting it too Desperate for help and showing all the signs but no one see's through

Wide - opened eyes as his life slowly crumbles and his bodies full of pain He's faced with addiction, he knows he can't fight it but this is the only way Once a bright future this young man had is slowly starting to die His addiction gets stronger people start to notice a change but all he does is lie

A friend tries to reach out to him and lend a hand but the young doctor turns away He is too ashamed to admit he is a doctor addicted to drugs and he goes back to his pain But the friend refuses to give up and tells him if he keeps going he will probably die The doctor relises what he's doing to himself and starts to break down and cry

His friend watches sadly and tries to comfort him in the best possible way he can He pulls him in a hug and says, "Everything will be ok, You'll be alright, man" They send him to a doctors rehab where he will slowly stop the pain As he sits in the clinic with other doctors like him, he relises his life will never be the same.

-- Nicole (pizza_cats@hotmail.com), July 24, 2000.

Hey I know what you mean about it not coming out right! (I've had a similar prob on another board!) But I liked your poem. It makes a nice summary! Very nice, if you have anymore like it PLEASE SHARE!

Nicole,

Great job! :) I really like it. Didn't you say once you are only 15? I think that poem showed great maturity in the way you were able to put it together! :)

WOW! Nicole, are you only 15! EVEN GREATER job I must say! I know 25 year old poetry majors who can't write that good FANTASTIC I just had to say it again!

-- Lauren (radhamtte@hotmail.com), July 24, 2000.

That was so cool! And you're only 15? Dang. I don't think I could've done that at 15.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), July 24, 2000.

Thanks. Yes I am 15. Sorry for posting it twice the layout didn't come out the way I wanted it too.

-- Nicole (pizza_cats@hotmail.com), July 25, 2000.

Yeah that was really good. I'm 15 and I couldnt have wrote that. It's also nice to know that I'm not the only 15 year old whose obssesed w/ ER my friends all make fun of me for it.

-- Bridgette (Bridgette713@hotmail.com), July 25, 2000.

That was a really good poem. I'm 16 and I'm really bad at writing poems. I am glad to know that they are other people around the same age as me who are also obsessed with ER, some of my friends think it's a little weird sometimes.

Great poem, I whipped up a little one, while reading yours. I am 14 yrs. old.

I look out the window in my red sports car, and see David Greene's ashes in a van in a jar.

Out infront of my car jogs a running bitch, she goes by the name of Cleo Finch.

I go in County and, I see an iv bag, being used by Dr. Greene the attending fag.

In comes Carla, holding Rogers hand, where is Reese, Peter doesn't understand.

Weaver looks up from behind a chair, "Hey everyone, I found Romano's hair!"

Elaine struts in to exam room 2, for it is her cousin John she is trying to woo.

Up in surgery, Rocket's dog, Gretal got away, the surgeons chased her every which way

"Come here Gretal," Rocket snickers, "Come now, here's Lizzie's knickers."

Phyl stood up and flicked off her tv, "No Doug and Carol? How can this be? This ends our poem about the hospital, County!

(we threw Phyl in there, because we know she's a good sport!!)

Obvisouly, I cannot use commas. Sorry, my apologies, move on (see, there's about 100 comma errors in this post alone!) :)

-- cheese (iluver@hotmail.com), July 25, 2000.

Cheese, i don't know how many people i speak for when i say i was offended by the line in which you call Dr. Greene a "fag". i don't think that kind of language is appropriate at all. it is an insult to those who are homosexual and was totally inapproriate. You may not like the character of Dr. greene or anthony edwards' portrayal of him, but i for one do not think that line was funny. at all

On another note, Nicole, i loved you poem! it shows a lot of emotion and maturity and depth! you should look into taking a creative writing course if they offer one at your high school...3/4 of the people in mine when i was in high school couldn't write that well! keep it up!

-- Erin (earthgirl24@yahoo.com), July 26, 2000.

You're right Erin! That was really uncalled for Cheese. Wan't it bad enough when some sicko started saying horrible things about Kellie Martin last week I believe it was? Now you just insulted a bunch of other people . Yes Dr. Greene is just a tv character but still it's not nice to call someone names wether the're real or fictional.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), July 26, 2000.

Oh, grow up, it was just a line that rhymed with bag. Get passed it, this was written in fun, not to demean Anthony Edwards. If it makes you feel better, insert the name of Yosh, or someone that really is gay.

-- cheese (iluver@hotmail.com), July 26, 2000.

cheese, i think you are the one who needs to grow up. i am not the one insulting people and using harmful terms. "fag" is not acceptable language...it is a hurtful term that is used in slander against another person. It shouldn't be used at all..your excuse is not validated. that kind of language is not acceptable. maybe when you are a little older and more mature you will understand that, and your writings will reflect those of a mature person and not someone who needs to use harmful words to get their point across.
