I was recently banned from the EZ board forum because my husband, "The Cattle Prod" chose to defend my actions against "Gordon Connelly". Because they seem concerned about things he posted here (with regard to that incident), I am posting their letter to me with their reasons as to our "banning" as well as my response. I have moved on and have no wish to return as their policies are somewhat different from my feelings on the matter and I will not be responding to anything on this thread. I post if for informational reasons alone.

While it is true that I was on- and off-line throughout that night, I was busy reporting to my station on local flash flooding and a five-victim fatal shooting incident. Besides not having any interest in the subject matter of the thread that began the problem, I didn't have the time to read it. Thus, to say I "refused" to step in is wholly inaccurate.

I did, however, read your much shorter thread demanding that, "GORDON SHOULD BE REPRIMANDED." That thread very quickly degenerated and promised to become even worse. I posted a note to it, saying there should be a time out, to let tensions subside, and locked it up. I then went off to look for the thread to which you obliquely referred, it not being at all clear which one you meant (as mentioned by several other posters). In the meantime, you posted something to the effect that I had refused to do anything about Gordon but was locking up YOUR thread and it wasn't fair. I explained to you then that sysops do not "reprimand" anyone without prior discussion and agreement, that I had not had time to read the other thread and planned to lock it up when I found it. I did and moved both threads to OT3, "off the front page," as it were. You thanked me for doing that and I deleted that angry post you wrote. By the way, I STILL have not had time to read the original thread in its entirety, but saw enough to realize it had degenerated into material unworthy of its participants and the new forum.

Not long after thanking me for my actions, you posted "Ciao," saying you were leaving the forum. It came as a bit of a surprise. With tensions running high, I thought your "Ciao" thread might become a lightning rod for those others involved in the degeneration of the other two threads and render a bad situation far worse. I moved it to OT3 with the first two threads, did not lock it, and posted a thread explaining what I had done, so people could find you and respond to your "Ciao." In that thread, I very much regretted your decision to leave the forum and explained why I had moved the three threads mentioned above. Also in that thread, I specifically stated it was an informational thread and requested it not be used to attack me or anyone else. Forum members seemed to think I had taken the right action.

Someone named The Cattle Prod came into my informational thread and started out with, if I remember right, "You morons. . ." and went on from there. That was an attack, pure and simple, and was intolerable, given my explicit request and my purpose--to defuse tensions. I not only deleted the post, I banned the poster. The Cattle Prod was banned but that is the only poster who has been banned in the last few months.

I should mention here that of the sysops on-line during the pertinent incident, all agreed on my actions. We do not ban posters without a prior consensus and there was such a consensus before Cattle Prod was banned. Since then, Cattle Prod has posted on Spinoff, misrepresenting the situation, and that poster will remain banned.

After your mail to Ed, I noted your IP number is the same series as that used by Cattle Prod and comes back to the same Italian internet service provider. In order for Cattle Prod to stay on the banned list and you to return to the forum, I regret that you may have to resort to using another ISP.

That was clear as mud. Though a concensus was reached, the reason remained nebulous...at least to me. It would seem that I was banned because my husband, "The Cattle Prod" went on line to defend me. I had no idea that you could be banned for the actions of others. How very democratic.

If he went to the other board, I was unaware of it. I have the bookmark there, but only show up to "lurk" about once a week. I'll go have a look and if you like I'll post something over there. Being a loving husband, he can't stand to see me hurt, so if that was the reason I was banned, I'll take it with pride.

The fact that the instigator was not even warned is incredible to me. I am amazed at the one sided reading of this situation. Just taking out personalities and reading the actual "words" that Gordon used should have been sufficient for a reprimand. I never even asked that he be banned.

But these are your sysops, Ed. If you agree with their ruling, that's what counts.

Sorry FS, IMHO and comparatively speaking..Spinoff IS a hell hole, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Thus the smiley face at the end of that name. Hell Holes can be fascinating places, I'm sure anyone would agree.

EZboard is like a quiet home in the country, with trees and happy singing birds and cute fuzzy squirrels..and you know all your neighbors and they stop by to bring you veggies from their garden and fresh homemade bread. You chat quietly over the fence about the daily news.

Spinoff is like Manhattan, or any large city. It's gritty and slick and filled with every imaginable kind of person. You're never sure if the person who stops you on the street is there to voice their deep opinion to you or slice you up with a knife. You have to shout to be heard amongst the sound of sirens and taxi horns. On one side of the street you have the most beautiful theaters and parks, on the other side you have bums, druggies and prostitutes. (Thus the "Survivable at times, but..")

Each has it's appeal. Each has it's space. Neither needs to be integrated with the other. You wouldn't want city slicker coming into the country shouting and raising a racket anymore than you would want a country bumpkin coming into the city and asking everyone to tone it down.

THE Hell Hole, an amusement park ride, that spins you so fast your stuck to the wall. Then the floor drops out beneath your feet. You are filled with nausea and a head rush and wish you'd never stepped foot in it. Yet, every year, you return to ride it again. Who knows why?

Oddly enough, I was on one of my weekly "tours" of the EZBOARD when I ran across a thread entitled "Ynott says goodbye" [paraphrased, and presented by OG.] Finally someone in that thread gave the appropriate links to the threads discussing what happened, and I went to those and began to read.

I wouldn't have been interested in Ynott leaving EZBOARD had I not encountered her in Bok's chat last year. We had a few good discussions in my early morning [which was more like her evening.]

I was more than halfway through the first link when my click on the next response showed "deleted by administrators." Okay. I clicked on the OTHER link. "Deleted by administrators."

You are undoubtedly right. But I'm curious about why certain people seem to harbor ongoing grudges toward certain other people (e.g. Hawk frequently bashing you). I've been attacked on a number of occasions, but don't harbor any long-time grudges. It certainly does affect the way one views the attacker in the future, though. As I recall LL didn't seem to like Patricia for some reason. On the other hand, this person seems like a probable male, to me.

I lied

I lied. I was Cattle Prod. Why now? I am compelled. I'd rather lose all of my worldly friendships than lose anything in God's eyes. He has been talking to me. ... an awful lot lately. I wrote a very long explanation and then trashed it. It really doesn't matter why. Those who followed it (the whole crummy episode) can probably figure out why it happened. The rest don't really matter. I don't want to be left behind for the foolish pride in my heart. I find myself in a peculiar circumstance. Everything seems imminent. I know this is how we are supposed to live. But I haven't been. There's always been , "Well tomorrow...."..... well, what if I don't have until tomorrow. Or it was only a little white lie.... Then why am I so compelled? I guess every lie is a big one in HIS eyes.

Other than white lies to make others feel better, I can't remember when I told my last lie, until that one...It didn't seem so big to me...until today. Don't ask why. Like signposts in my life, everywhere I turn now I am being nudged, pushed and poked back into line on that narrow path, in every area of my life. My life has been turned upside down. I may not have a tomorrow to fix it, so I'm trying to fix it now.

I care about how you feel and confession is not easy, but I had to say it. It will matter very little to some, annoy and disappoint others....I hurt myself the most. I am hurting now in having to tell you this. I am disgusted not with what I said....but that I didn't have the guts to say it under my own name. I am not retracting anything that was said, but I am sorry that I lied about who was saying it.

They say confession is good for the soul, but quite frankly it doesn't feel very good to me and I doubt it ever will. I am asking for your forgiveness and if I can't get that at least your acceptance of this. I am sorry for misleading you.
