Ridin in the river bottoms. [trees]

Back in Feb - lil dumplin and I went a ridin in the river bottoms near our farm. We wanted to go look things over as we hadn't been in there in about 3 months or so. We jumped in the old chev 4 wheel pull and headed down there. A recent mini oil boom had been underway for about 6 months or so. We got down there and seen what all had been goin on. Old oil wells long ago shut down were being opened up with a workover rig and even drilled deeper to new pays. We have been goin down there for about 35 years and thought we knew where all those old wells were. Boy, was we surprised! They had pushed out trees and underbrush all over those bottoms. New roads were built, bridges made and of course, new worked over wells were pumpin that black gold. Talk was that some of those old wells were makin over 300 barrels a day! After driving around all over that area, we crossed the dredge ditch and started lookin for hickory trees. We found 3 of the originals that hadn't been pushed out yet. After loading up about 5 gallons of the big bottom nuts we headed out another way. We crossed Little Muddy via low water crossing and noticed another well just north and alongside the river. While they had opened it up they had also pushed out a bunch more trees. We located an old Indian Campground just above the well on top of a big bluff. I had never know it was there because of all the trees a hiding it. I imagine a burial ground is closeby but would never tell anybody about it for fear of it being robbed. I have a lot of indian arifacts on my farm-camp sites etc. I've kept my mouth shut because I know what people do when something llike this gets out. I like my privacy, my "borrowed" farm and my indian ancestors. Matt. 24:44

George! Nope, not in Feb. In the summertime it's a horse of a different color. An oil well pumper I knew, hated snakes and shot all he seen. He told me he killed one in the dredge ditch that measured 26 ft long. Now, I'm not sayin it's so-never seen it but had heard of other people seeing it at different times and said it was HUGE! I kinda wondered if all of'm were smokin left handed loco weed. If we could only teach the mountain lions to eat snakes------! Matt. 24:44

I've had emails wondering why I end my posts with Matt. 24:44 and what it means. For any who really want to know and didn't want to ask- -----It's a Bible verse from the King James Version and is a verse that I really connect with. "So be ye therefore ready for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh". I'm not preachin, nor condemning anybody that is other than Christian. Just answering questions from emails. thanks. hoot. Matt. 24:44

Hoot, I'm responding to your latest post on this thread. When I noticed your verse close, I looked it up . I'd never judge you, we all should be "one with our God". Please keep the yarns coming, as long as people like you are around, I know what my grandfather stood for will never die. Sometime I'll try to post Grandpas' experience of the Athens Al , Spur TX connection and just how small the world really is.
