Which is easier? Girls or Boys?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Melting Pot : One Thread

You tell me what you think. Are girls easier to raise? Or do you think boys are easier? If you don't really know because you only have a girl/boy, feel free to express your opinions anyway. I'd love to hear them.

Gina, Thank you so much for your answer. At least now I know I'm not the only one experiencing this kind of behavior. Lauren really is a handful right now, and she's only seven. Colin is wonderful and sweet, just as you said was the case with your son. The only upsetting thing is the thought of the tables turning when Colin reaches Lauren's age. I only hope I'm fortunate enough for her to have moved pass this stage as your daughter has. Thanks so much.

I have to agree with the gender issue not really being the main difference, Mark. I, too, believe it has a lot to do with their own little personalities and sibling order. So many times people make generalized comments (such as my mother did about girls being easier than boys) and they stick in your mind. I grew up honestly thinking girls would be so easy to raise and boys would be horrible. My experience, so far, has taught me otherwise.

As Gina stated, in a few years it could be right the opposite. I think much of it has to do with stages of growth for each child. It could just be that Lauren is going through a major changing stage in development at this time in her life and it is causing some friction between herself and me. She could quickly grow out of it and I will wonder what I ever had to complain about.

I don't remember being her age very well. I don't recall whether I went through this stage or not. All I know that, as a parent, it is very hard to deal with certain situations.

It's hard right now. Too bad children don't come with instruction manuals. Keep on keeping on, right?

Thanks for your comments, Mark. :)

Well... I have a daughter 9 and son 6. I have 'always' said that raising a son was easier.. little boys have a way of being so sweet.. not always gentle, but definately sweet.

My daughter was always a pistol, her and I would knock heads ALL the time. And I would say that raising a daughter was hard because they aren't as easy going as my son..

Well.. here is the kicker. It has changed. *FLIP*

My daughter is very easy going now and has grown out of that stage that I call the 'crybaby' stage and hard nose stubborn fighten stage. She will now do what I ask and not cry or fight me on it. Of course like at dinner she wont eat her veges, but she is so much better. I can tolerate it.

My son.. is a total crybaby now and fights me on everything and lips off to me to no end. Drives me crazy! .. throws himself on the floor in stores, has tantrums.. and the list goes on.

At this point in my life.. I have to say that raising a boy is definately harder.

Good question! Gina

I grew up with 2 younger brothers (I'm the oldest) and 7 male cousins and 1 female cousin. My wife and I have had 3 girls (the first three) and our only son (the caboose).

I personally think that raising GIRLS is easier, especially in the pre-teens, but I may change my mind as I have 2 girls in their teen years (15 and 14). My wife would concur with me and say girls are also easier - even though she dearly loves my sweet little 7 year old son.

To be honest, I don't think it's NOT a gender issue, but more of a sibling order within the family that accounts for their personality characteristics.
