Fire Life Safety System Maintenance

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SI Revolutionaries Group 4 : One Thread

I was just reading an article in HPAC on "Fire and Smoke Control, Part 1". In the article they were discussing the importance on maintenance on a smoke control system, both fire sprinklers and mechanical smoke evac. It was discussed that the maintenance and retesting of these systems is something that is starting to be addressed in the codes. The 2000 International Fire Code now includes qualifications for the people who will be doing the testing. The article mentioned that this type of maintenance could be a "very lucrative market" in the near future.

I'm sure that the various "third party" inpections services out there, Rolf Jensen, Schirmer Engineering, etc., are shoe-ins for this type of work. But, it seems to me that this could be a logical extension of our service departments. We maintain the systems and provide assistance in the re-certification of the systems.
