Nice map and course from Finland on the web.greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread |
This link is to a map of some very nice looking terrain in Finland. Supposedly it is not far from next year's World Champs.http://user.sgic.fi/~ksk/hrv/ponsa_etela_h21.gif

from 3 to 4, what is your route choice? Is the crossable marsh to be avoided or is it a possible option? Is it just sloppy but still not much loss in speed?

Looks like mostly just straight line compass running to me.

On 3-4, I would go a little bit south of the straight-line. I would not avoid running across the marsh. But, it probably would be slow/tough running. The marshes in Scandinavia vary a lot, but are usually easier to run through than the marshes you find in the US.

Check out Bjornar Valstad's routes. He went around the big marsh (but to the north). He also boomed the control.http://user.sgic.fi/~ksk/hrv/ponsa_etela_h21_reitti.gif
Liisa Anttila's routes for the same map (but not the same course) are at:

Liisa ran right through the big marsh that is between 3-4 on the men's course.
