Comments on "The View" re: JM & the $27mil

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Following up the earlier post on Barbara Walters comments last year on "The View" regarding Julianna's decision to turn down the $27 million dollar offer I agree with Cammie who said certainly other ER actress (and actors as well) who subsequently went on that show didn't bring it up to dicuss with Barbara and offer their support for Julianna's decision. In fact I know the *only* castmember to date that supported her decision to turn down the money and leave "ER" was George Clooney. (not surprising since JM has gone on record saying George was her best friend from the show) But I heard that LI is also good friends with JM and never heard her come out with any public offer of support. I am not saying that they had to, perhaps they felt it wasn't their place to do so, but still if a member of the press made rude comments,as apparently Barbara Walters did, I would personally feel compelled to offer my support to my co-worker and certainly someone I considered a friend. maybe they didnt feel like it was their place to discuss her business... i saw kellie martin on the martin short show back in december and she really told him she couldnt comment on it.

I heard Anthony Edwards supported her decision as well in an interview a while back. I think Rachel is right. That would explain why almost noone from the show commented on it. It was her decision and if anyone has a problem with that then oh well. And maybe JM asked the cast not to say anything about it if it was brought up and so they respected her wishes. Like on the Martin Short show. This is OT but I wish the cable company down here in Nashville would show the Martin Short Show. But I heard it was cancelled so I guess it doesn't matter now, but still I like Martin Short. And as for Barbara's comments, she needs to think before speaking. I was always taught that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone then keep your mouth shut.

Tony Edwards offered his support??? I don't think so. At least every interview or article I have seen or read. ON "Rosie O'Donnell" last October he *did* offer support of Gloria Rueben's decision to leave and even said he was happy for her but never mentioned Julianna by name but said that he "only wanted people who wanted to be on the show" implying, to me, he was annoyed with her decision. I also get the impression he is jealous of GC from past comments and even so far as telling George *not* to come back to "ER" because it would be hard on the other actors who worked so hard to move on without. Some friend huh?? Anyway... this is all water on the bridge I guess since JM and GC have moved on and so will "ER" -

Are you sure Kathy? Not to be mean but I could have sworn before UC was shown that in a interview he did that he supported her. But maybe I heard wrong. If that's the case then I'm sorry.

i though barbara walters would have more sense than to say those comments. they were not im jm's postion,so they couldn't have know what she was going through or want she wanted.it was jm's descion plain and simple;its what she wanted to go for herself.

Kathy, now I'm starting to wonder if the cast of "ER" are really good friends like JM claims that they are. I mean there was a rumor that NW, AE, and EL are jealous of GV. Then there was a rumor that JM is jealous of KM. Now you said that AE might be jealous of GC which is another ridiculous rumor. It sounds to me like some people on the cast (past and present) are jealous of one another and yet they tell people in interviews that they're really good friends. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Sorry I keep posting alot. I was just thinking about what you said about AE and GC.

Cammie - I am not trying to start anything here by saying that the castmembers don't get along. I am sure they do. But like all friends they occaisonally argue I am sure and have their differences professionally as well. Not all personalities click either professionally or personally. I'm sure George and Julianna have their moments as everyone else does. Of course being in the limelight every little thing said or done is jumped on by the media and the public and I may be guilty of that myself. As far as Tony Edward's comments, the ones I have heard and seen, makes me think twice about him and not in a good way believe me. I thought it could have been nicer to both of them especially on talk shows and in the media print. And as far as tabloid rumors are concerned (i.e. romantic trysts between co-workers, cat fights on the set) I always have remembered what my grandmother said "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear or read"

Alex Kingston offered support too. Back in December, David Letterman said something about JM being nuts for turning down that much money (I'm paraphrasing but it was something like that) and AK said no, she respected JM's decision to move on and do other things. And I've never heard Anthony Edwards discuss it much except to say they'd miss having JM around (this was on Donny and Marie, and yes, that's exactly what he said). No one else was directly asked about JM that I ever saw, so they probably didn't feel it was their place to get in her business.

To finish my thought (my fingers got ahead of me), I know no one else mentioned JM's decision on The View, but no one seemed to mention it on any show unless asked directly. Besides, BW may have been rude for making comments on it in the first place, but it also would have been rude to go on her show as a guest and bring the topic up specifically to disagree with her. Now if BW would have brought it up to one of the ER ladies and no one had said anything supportive, that would be another story.

Kathy, while I have enjoyed the discussion on this thread, I am wondering why it wasn't posted under the original one? It makes the whole topic easier to understand, and respond two, if it is all in the same place.

I just watched an repeat of Noah Wyle's appearance on Martin Short last December. He supported Juliannia and her decision. He mentioned something about how the original cast members undertood why she wanted to leave and how her characacter was no longer the same with George gone. Noah seemed very supportive and genuine about Julliania decision. Laura and Noah appeared very understanding about Juliannia on Rosie visit to the set. They both seemed to understand why D/C should get back together.

On Letterman awhile back, Clooney said he was surprised that JM turned down the offer, and he wouldn't have. He also said the show's better without him. Doubtful

Ryan- I heard that too but I thought he was joking about that. I don't know how much GC was offered but I thought he was glad to get out off the show.
