Selma and Hamlet Depot Photos

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

In support of the restoration of the Selma (ACL) and Hamlet (SAL) depots, we are searching for photos to copy and return. We need any photos showing either full views, partial views, or closeups of the interior or exterior of the depots. Please take a look in your files and see what might turn up. We can also use high grade scans of your photos in lieu of borrowing the prints. We also need any photos that might show how the ATLANTIC COAST LINE lettering was applied to the ACL baggage wagons, as we are restoring two for display inside the Rocky Mount depot. Many thanks, Marc L. Hamel, NCDOT Rail Division

Suggest contacting Bob Craddock, retired SCL engineer, who serves as coordinator of the Railroad Retirees Group here in Raleigh [846- 1807]. Also, former SAL fireman Wiley Bryan's photo collection. Wiley is deceased.

Marc, Saw your need for pictures of the depot in Hamlet. Recently I took a number of panaramic shots of all sides of the depot. I am later to submit these pictures to Trains Magazine with a short story on this. I too wanted to capture all various angles of the depot before it is moved and renovated. You may use these pictures with credit and I would like to take more as you want. I live in Pinehurst, work part time for a short line here and an active rail historian. As for the SAL/ACL herald, the original is in Hamlet and will be used on the red caboose on display in Hamlet during its future repaint. If I can assist you with pictures of the depot, please drop me a note as I would like to be a part of this. Thanks, Rick Tufts Pinehurst NC P.S., You know John McFadden? He was very helpful with questions I had in refurbishing an old PRR heavyweight car.
