EOS lens hood usable with FD?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

Hi. In view of exorbitant FD hood price (due to discontinued production probably?) I was wondering whether same size of EOS lens hood would work with FD lenses. Or is there any way to slightly modify them and use them?

Thanks!

An EOS hood is not directly useable with FD lenses. EOS uses latches on the hood that catch a groove on the lens. FD uses a bayonet shape on the hood that mates with the ridges on the lens with a 1/4 turn.

I adapted an EOS lens hood to a vivitar lens by machining up a ring that fit over the lens barrel. The ring had a groove in it that the hood latched onto.

If the names on the hood don't bother you, go thru your local camera stores used hood bin to find something from another manufacturer that fits. There is a Minolta hood for their 20 mm that clamps on the breech mount Canon FD 20 & 17 lenses. I also found a Komura metal hood from a cine lens that works very well for the 35-105 and is actually bigger and longer and thus more effective than the Canon BW72B.
