monicans and breens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

This might be pretty dorky of me to notice but after watching the first season on dvd for about 500 times i cant help to see that all monicans have only dark black hair while breens will never be fully black haired but anywhere from blond to dark brown.

Was that the intentional design? Anyone else notice it?

We've actually discussed this quite a bit, I think the post with a lot of it is called "Monicans" or something like that, kind of lower in the list. To reiterate, I think it was intended to make obvious the parody of stereotypes and to show that there were two distinct nations in this world, all that could be done in the absence of speech I think. If you notice, in the long episodes, with the benefit of dialogue, the characters don't tend to follow the pre-established national stereotypes, possibly because the dialogue exists to identify their nationality... That, and the conceptual purpose of the later episodes is probably a little more complex than the highly- focused shorts. I think that would necessitate more complex characters, inside and out.

Then there's that unidentified red-headed race.

Just a meaningless third party for the purposes of "War", as far as I'm concerned...
