I would like to know some good sheep lists.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am going to be a first time sheep owner come this Saturday (Icelandic - yea!). Can anyone suggest some good sheep lists for a novice. Something not too technical, nor too amateurish. (By amateurish, I mean I don't want posts telling me about how someone got hay in their hair by having their animal in the back seat of a car, which is exactly the type of posts I got from a goat list I was on one time.)

Thank you.

I am not sure what you are looking for, but when I need information re: medical questions regarding the sheep I ask on Breeders World, they are show sheep and can get into all the judging stuff, but as a fairly new sheep raiser they have taken the time to answer all my question, some have emailed me with follow ups. They are definitely show people not homesteaders type but very nice and helpful. The site also has a goat page, steer and hog pages. I use both the steer and sheep pages.

egroups.com has tons of lists, just put sheep in the search engine. I also belong to goat and sheep rancher on this list, believe me though we have some fun sometimes, it's mostly business. Vicki

Yes, it is the www.breeders world - just on and they are still in the show season but go back a page or two and they are getting ready for all the lambing problems. I check it almost every day or so because I have found after reading things ie. fungus, limping, not eating, and the latest is my ram ready to do his stuff being discussed and then having the problem. I print alot and keep in a file. Boy did I have worming problems this year and they helped alot, mostly by emailing me personally because some my questions were deep and they needed to tell me what product name helped. Good Luck, Debbie
