Cairo airport traffic control breaks down

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- A breakdown in the air traffic control system at Cairo airport Friday caused dozens of flights to be rerouted or delayed, airport officials said.

Technicians took an hour and a half to fix the control equipment. The malfunctioning affected flights from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the officials said on condition of anonymity.

The officials declined to give the precise number of flights affected, but said outgoing flights were delayed and incoming flights were diverted to other airports.

The airport is Egypt's largest and handles about 200 domestic and international flights a day.

This is the kind of thing that was supposed to be wide spread early in the year. I wonder what happened.

The folks at glitchcenteral.com had predicted problems in late August. And it is indeed late August.
