what do I do about "mites" under rabbit hutches?

There are little tiny "mite" type bugs under neath our rabbit hutches. The hutches are hanging on the wall of the barn in their seperate rabbit "house." and thay're about three feet off the ground. I clean under the hutches EVERY morning. The mites don't seem to be on the bunnies but when they get on a human they are worse than chiggers!!!! (don't ask me how I know that....:)

The co-op folks sold me some chemical stuff to spray the ground with today and that's supposed to take care of the problem. But I prefer a more organic way of keeping this under control. What do I need to do? Are these things like chicken mites...my husband says they look like them?

I would try food grade DE. I leave some in a pan for my chickens and (knock on wood) I haven't yet had any mites on them. Good luck!

How about a sticky trap attached nearby, like on the wall under the bunnies?
