Flight from JFK to Tel Aviv delayed due to electrical malfunction

(IsraelWire-9/3) TWA flight 884 from New Yorks JFK International Airport to Tel Avivs Ben-Gurion International Airport was delayed on Friday night due to electrical problems detected aboard the flight.

The pilot of the Boeing 767-300 with two hundred passengers on board was unable to land on his first attempt back to JFK because he was unable to distinguish the exact position of the runways beginning. After spending the night in the airport, passengers were sent home and provided with alternative flights. 140 additional passengers, whom were to have flown on Saturday from Tel Aviv to New York City on the same plane, were also provided with additional flights.

The flight took off from JFK at about 11:00pm local time, but shortly thereafter; the pilot announced there was a problem detected with a generator that would require returning to JFK. The plane according to passengers was almost touching the ground when the pilot pulled up, requiring a second attempt at landing. The pilot later explained he was uncertain of the crafts exact position vis-`-vis the runway.

After circling for a short time, the plane made a second attempt to land and made what one passenger called a very hard landing, with a sudden sharp braking at the end. The pane did land without incident and there were no reports of injuries, just some disgruntled passengers.
