KARACHI, Sept 2: Water supply to North Karachi and various sectors of Surjani Township was affected badly on Saturday owing to frequent power failures that occurred at the KWSB's North-East Karachi Pumping Station.
According to KWSB sources, pumping of water at the NEK pumping station remained suspended for over three-and-a-half hours on Saturday because of power breakdowns which occurred twice at the pumping station. Elaborating, they said there was no electricity at the NEK pumping station on Saturday from 1.25 pm to 3.40 pm and again at from 4 pm to 5.15 pm.
Meanwhile, residents of different parts of districts South and East continued to face acute water on the fifth consecutive day on Saturday.
According to residents of different societies, Mehmoodabad, Clifton, Old City Area and Soldier Bazaar, water supply to their areas was disrupted affected following a burst in the 72-inch dia rising main of Greater Karachi Water Supply, Phase-II, near Dhabeji on Wednesday.
A KWSB spokesman said water supply to the affected areas had already been released through a standby rising main and repair work would be completed by Saturday night. Complaints of water shortage have also been received from North Karachi's Sir Syed Town.
Taking an undue advantage of the persisting water shortage, private tankers continued to do a roaring business, charging between Rs 500 and 600 per tanker.
