Need help from herbalists

Does anyone know of herbal methods for treating cancer or treating cancer treatments or herbs to support the system during treatment?

My father will be having a colon resection soon, right now it is not known if the area is pre-cancerous or cancerous. I want to get him started on a herbal progam before surgery. He has been anemic for two years, this may be the reason why.

I am thinking dandylions, both root and leaves for a mineral tonic. Violet plants to get the mucous flowing from the glands and violet flowers as a blood purifier. And onion soup because he's not going to eat garlic soup.

If anyone else has information on herbs and cancer patients please let me know.

Thank you!

You might want to check out Kathy Sedler's site:

We use a lot of herbal remedies and this is one of the only sites (and sources) I've found that doesn't give you a bunch of jive. She specializes in helping people with serious illnesses- this is not a candlemaking/potpourri site! Good luck to your dad.

Essiac Tea, Laura. It is a combination of herbs that has supposedly had excellent results. I gave some to my Uncle Bill and trusted him to take it.(It looks nasty). Not sure how much he actually did- but he's in remission now. If it were me I'd try anything natural. Kathy in Kentucky.

May I suggest a trip to your local books-a-million or other book seller. After reading your post, I looked up the topic in my copy of The Healing Herbs by Micheal Castleman ($7.50 U.S.) and it has forty different herbs listed as possible aids for various complications with cancer and chemo/radiation treatments. I believe the book or one similar would be of better service to you as you will be able to better match possibilities to your situation. You are correct in considering herbals as an aid. A woman I went to school with used them to avoid anemia , nausea and hair loss during treatment. Be sure to check with a physician prior to using any herbal, even though they are natural, they are medicines and could cause complications with other treatments.

Laura; my granny had cander in her lungs. We put her on the Essiac tea and it CLEARED IT ALL UP!!!!!! Praise God!!!I have an elderly gentleman up here that suffers from cancer; we have him on it too, its rather early to tell but he's been having some "good days" lately!:) Countryside has alot of ads in the latest issue for "Herbal Healers Academy". I get their 4-herb blend (which is what Essiac is) for about $20/ months supply for my friend. Just brewed him up a fresh batch today!

Laura, Remember herbs are medicine. You have to check into the medications he is currently taking and see if any of these would contradict with what he is taking. Also, depending on his other illnesses (if there are any) certain herbs don't mix well. (for instance - licorice root bothers some with heart problems) A couple friends and I took a course by Dr. Christopher out of, I believe Montana. He gets into alot of the incurrable diseases. His big thing was to clean the blood, liver and gallbladder anytime you are trying to cure something as serious as cancer. Find someone who knows exactly how to handle this and do it right! You don't need to be wasting valuable time trying to figure this out yourself. GOOD LUCK !!!

Yew tea is also supposed to be very good at helping to fight cancer. Another thing is to focus and other blood purifiers, grape seed extract and raspberry tea, to mention a couple. You do have to be careful about overloading the system, though. God's blessings, and a speedy recovery to your father!

You may want to check in with his MD and surgeon. Some herbal medications are blood thinners and surgery may have to be postponed if he is taking certain ones before hand. Further, some of them may cause reactions with the medications used for anesthesia - and you definatly don't want that! Make sure all the medical professionals that you deal with know what he is taking and how much and for how long. I have nothing against herbal remedies, but just because they are natural, doesn't mean that they aren't harmful, especially in concert with other medications.

Laura,

Do a web search on coenzyme Q-10. The scientific name is ubiquinone.

It is believed by some people that cutting all sugars and starches out of the diet may help fight cancers, as the cancer cells seem to strongly prefer sugars for their food. Check out the low-carb diet sites, and the paleolithic diet sites -- I think they have links to more information on this.

I want to thank you all for your help and advice and the good links. For those prayer warriors, please pray for him.

He is in his seventies and can still outwork my husband and I. In spite of this current situation, he is one healthy and tough old bird and I intend to keep him that way.

If any of you run across any more information, please send it on to me.

as stated by others earlier, natural medicine is still medicine and should be treated as such. some interact severly with prescribed meds. etc.. having said that, Pua D Arco is wonderful for boosting the immune system. vites c and b complex are excellent for fighting off the effects of chemo and when added with st. johns wort fight depression. echinacea is a natural antibiotic and antiviral. there are some wonderful books on the market today and very well may be some at your local library. by far the most important med is state of mind. many blessings

If you don't want to prepare Essiac from scratch, your health food store should sell "Floressence" which is a prebottled form. It's rather expensive, but if your're short on time, might be good to have some on hand.
