Virginia Vs. the A.C.L.U.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Virginia is being challenged to a Supreme Court battle by the ACLU aka Atheists Combined with Liberals Unwanted. The issue is our "Moment of Silence" in public schools. First of all, the students can use the moment for anything they like--prayer, reflection, meditation or planning their day as long as it is done in silence. Second, Virginia is not a state, it is a Commomwealth which means we can and will make law according to the feelings of the people of this region ! Third, the Girl that the ACLU is supposedly defending is a 12 year old. 12 year olds have no idea of issues. They can't make a bed much less make up their minds.

Now the child claims she is worried that children will make fun of her classmates who "Cross" themselves during this moment. I think she is badly confused and mislead by adults ( lawyers) who see a free ticket to the media thru her. I hate lawyers, even my own ! I think liberal lawyers are worse. They are the closest thing to the "snake in the garden" that we presently can refer to ! If there was one thing I could change about our judicial system it would be the removal of lawyers as a occupation. Every man should be forced to represent himself or herself and children under 18 by their parents.

I hope, and it is my prayer, that the Court finds Virginia excempt from compliance with Federal law as the " Moment of Silence" is NOT specifically designated for prayer.

Re: ACLU attorneys. The trial of Richard Butler, head of the Ayran Nations just ended in Couer d'Alene Idaho. The folks the ACLU attorney was representing was awarded over 6 million dollars. I have no problem with that and will be the first to say that the Aryan Nations are horrible, depraved people as are all hate groups. What bothers me is that the ACLU attorney, Morris Dees, used the law delibertly and calculatingly (and he said so himself) to bankrupt the group and further his own crusade. In other words, if the ACLU doesn't like your organization and what it stands for, they can legally use the court system to bankrupt you. The only difference I can see here between Waco and Ruby Ridge is that it was done with lawyers and dollars instead of bullets.

My sister-in-law, who is half Tlinget Indian, a few years ago went into a hospital in Alaska for minor surgery, and came out with an unauthorized total hysterectomy. Subsequently, she found out that this had happened to quite a few Native American women up there. I don't think too much of the ACLU because of the stands they have taken, but tentatively suggested to her that this was just right up their alley. She (rightly, in my opinion) refused to have anything to do with them. It's the kind of thing that would take a lot of time, money, and committment to do anything about, which the ACLU has, but as Joel said, they are the closest thing to the snake in the garden, and it would be polluting to even associate with them. So the issue has been left lie until someone is able to fight it without their "help". ( know this hasn't got anything to do with the original post, but Joel's mention of the ACLU reminded me of this.)

Hey Joel! I have to disagree with you most vigerously! You have done a GREAT mis-service to the "snake in the Garden" by comparing the ACLU to him. Frankly, I haven't found any use for any lawyer especially those in the ACLU. Just think, if it wasn't for politicans and lawyers we would be a lot better off. My $2.00 worth--- -yes, I mean $2. The lawyers have raised the stakes so where .02 won't buy anything anymore. Matt. 24:44

Joel. speaking of snakes and the ACLU, saw where they will represent two NAMBLA members who murdered and Then molested the poor dead boy. I think he was 11 y/o. Good old Alan Dershowicz (sp) says it's a 1st amendment thing! I don't know why I'm surprised about this stuff (mainstreaming of perversion) anymore.

www.worldnetdaily.com has had ongoing coverage of the Boy Scouts battles and trials w/ the perverts and misguided. Yesterday they had an excellant editorial about the ACLU and NAMBLA. Had a scary link that showed actual content of NAMBLA web info! Highly recommend people check into this. www.scoutingforall.com You may have heard about Scouting for all. An "all inclusive" scout organization. The web site was put up by a group opposed to the whole "Inclusive" thing and is being sued (surprise!) for using the name.

Morris Dees has been real upfront for a long time w/ his strategy of economic devastation of groups he opposes. To these people, the right of free speech only belongs to those who parrot the radical left/pervert agenda.

Sorry I got carried away. So many things going on anymore. Seems we get assulted w/ a constant bombardment of evil.

Remember it's 90% of Lawyers that give the other 10% a bad name!

About lawyers, right after the Columbine incident, area school districts went nuts and had arrested any student who made what even slightly resembled a threat. ( I'm sure some might have deserved it.) Anyway, in our district, 3 boys were arrested; one was my son. At the expulsion hearing, the other 2 boys were represented by lawyers--my husband and I represented my son. One boy was expelled indefinitely, one was expelled for the remainder of the school year, and my son, they only one not represented by an attorney? Well, the school board voted unanimously AGAINST expulsion, and we even received apologies from some members for our having to endure what we did. Now maybe it's just that my son was innocent and the other boys guilty--but it does make you think...by the way, after the school board exoneration, the D.A. also dropped all charges. The Public Pretender my son was appointed would have had him take a plea agreement. We had my son fire him. Good call on our part, I'd say.

It was in the news over the weekend that the ACLU is defending a group that supports sex between men and little boys. It's called "Man Love" or somethng like that. The group is being sued by the parents of a little boy who was sodomized and murdered and they parents say the murderer was with this group or subscribed to it or something like that.

I'm afraid I'm sounding like my Grandmother but what is this world coming to ? Better yet what is are justice system coming to ? Lord help us we need to do something !

Joe, The "Man boy thing" is NAMBLA. I should have explained that. Sorry. It stands for North American Man Boy Love Association. This group of child molesters wants to lower the age of consent for sex between adult men and "consenting Boys".(Legally acheiving your goal) NAMBLE literature also advises how to lure young men into sexual situations (Illegally achieving your goal) and how not to get caught. The killers were reading NAMBLA literature less than an hour before they abducted and killed the child. Oh yeah, and then had sex w/ the body. That was before they concreted him in a box and dumped him in the river.

These are all the same people who want you to dump on the Boy Scouts for having some integrety. Same folks who want to censure Dr. Laura (I'm not even going to try her last name) for her stand on homosexuality and child molestation. Same people who confuse and group behavior into the same constutionally protected areas as race, ethnicity and gender. John

I think I'm going to heave...nevertheless I thank you all for the info. The odd thought in my mind is that if you took one of these guys out and clubbed him to death like he deserved, you'd be up on hate crime charges. I thought all crimes are hate crimes...doesn't sound to me like sodomy and murder are love crimes?

Ed , if we could figure out how we could all be on these jury's we could give out medals instead of jail time .

Hi. I'm 18, and a student in college. I remember that at my school, we were allowed to assemble in the cafeteria at lunch time for prayer if we so wished, and our sports coaches allowed us to hold prayer before games. Sometimes, we would hold prayer for those who wished to join in certain situations, but no one was ever forced to join if they chose not to. One time, a girl in our school was pushing to get the band banned from praying before footballs games. Why? I don't understand why people are so against having prayers. No one is forced to join if they don't want to. But yet, we're forced to sit in classrooms where our teachers discuss the theory of evolution. That's not right. Evolution goes against our beliefs, but we're forced to sit through it and not argue. Our nation is going down the drain. It was founded for religious beliefs. It was founded as a nation where people could woship GOD freely, but people have gotten to where they want to exclude GOD. When the Lord comes back to take his bride home, everyone left will regret not having Him in their lives.
