Hendrix to Follow Van Gogh at Boston Museum

BOSTON (Reuters) - Monet, Van Gogh, Hendrix?

Boston's Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), which two years ago featured Impressionist Claude Monet and now draws crowds with its Vincent Van Gogh exhibit, is about to put on display the guitar of a rock music legend.

Jimi Hendrix's 1967 Gibson Flying V -- complete with a psychedelic flower-power pattern designed by the guitarist -- is among some 130 instruments in ``Dangerous Curves: Art of the Guitar.''

Said to be the first exhibit to focus on the guitar as a work of art, ``Dangerous Curves'' also includes instruments designed by famed violin maker Antonio Stradivari as well as guitars owned by Prince, Les Paul and Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen.

The announcement comes a week before the 30th anniversary of Hendrix's death at age 27 and a day after the release of the guitarist's four-CD box set and the opening of a Hendrix exhibit at Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

An MFA spokesman said the timing was ``purely a coincidence.''

``Dangerous Curves'' runs from Nov. 5 through Feb 25.
