Identifying the Next Threat
Those of us who like to be prepared generally have scenarios in mind for which we are preparig. Now that Y2K is over, what should you be preparing for A nuclear attack or accident? A hurricane or tornado? Biological warfare? Long-term power outages this summer? Terrorism? Inflation and depression? Earthquake? Fire? Unemployment or disability? Identify theft? An oppressive government?

If you only knew what potential disaster you would face next, it would be easy, but since none of us have a crystal ball, we recommend that you prepare broadly enough to cover a range of potential disasters, mishaps and emergencies. This way, you can improve your ability to survive any disaster and come out of it better off than the general population. For starters, read Captain Dave's Survival Guide and tune in this summer for a new, expanded version.

Gas Prices Drop, but so Does the NASDAQ.
Gas prices are dropping, finally, and the $2 a gallon rate by summer is doubtful anywhere outside of California. Still, it was a scare for most consumers. If you were low on heating oil and had to pay $1.89 or more, you know how easy it is for a shortage to strike.

Lower gas prices should mean lower inflation, and hopefully the Fed will not rush to raise rates further. But can the NASDAQ and tech stocks withstand a dip of 20 percent? Will our confidence in the economy withstand a market that hits 5,000 and then drops close to 4000? OK, so it's an election year, and markets are supposed to go up in an election year, but do you want to really count on this clichi? We recommend that you prepare for inflation, recession, depression and unemployment as aggressively as you woul for a natural disaster.

If you purchased food and stocked up on goods for Y2K, we suggest you keep your stash in good shape; you might need those rations soon. If you are a new comer to the preparendess game, visit our store for all your food and equipment needs. We've got some great sales going on.

Clinton Threatens Gun Rights, Again!
Captain Dave believes a gun in the hands of honest, law abiding, citizens will not only help reduce crime (as statistics have shown), but provide an important edge when properly used in a survival situation. However our right to protect ourselves, as well as our right ot hunt, is being eroded.

Unless you have been living in a cave without a radio or newspaper, you probably know that our right to keep and bear arms is under assault again. (When is it not?) Clinton and his cronies continued to attack our rights legislatively and through a series of unconstitutional cases in the courts. Now they are using a settlement agreement with Smith & Wesson to further their desires, doing an end-run on the courts and the Constitution. And should Al Gore be elected, we could see an even greater destruction of our rights. For this reason, we have compiled a list of things you can do to fight gun control and help preserve your rights.

Regardless of whether you own a gun or not, remember that it is our collective right as citizens to own weapons. If you choose not to exercise that right, fin. but please do not interfere with my right. And keep in mind that modern firearms in the hands of the citizens protect our other rights, including the right of free speech, privacy and religious freedom.

And speaking of gun grabbers, it seems that every spring a new burst of gunfire echoes through an otherwise normal school, spurring more talk of guns control. Interestingly enough, the Colorado incident has increased calls not just for gun control, but for video game control, TV control and other forms of censorship. Where does the real problem lie? Is it guns in classrooms or evil in the hearts of children. We have some interesting thoughts and links on this topic.

Gun Magazines and Spring Kits
Regardless of how you feel about guns in schools, they can play an important part in your survival plans. But only as long as they keep working. Captain Dave's Survival Shop now carries magazines for popular survival guns as well as spring kits and replacement parts, spotting scopes and binoculars. Don't miss these great deals. More parts and accessories for shotguns will be coming soon.
