A sizable leak from a natural gas pipe created a hassle Friday for motorists and workers in downtown Tacoma.

A pipe broke at a construction project at South 11th and A streets about 8:30 a.m., leaking natural gas into the air, the Tacoma Fire Department reported.

The size of the gas leak forced firefighters to evacuated several buildings and barricade four blocks of Pacific Avenue near the construction site.

No injuries were reported.

The fire department and gas company crews closed off the leak and cleared the area just before 10 a.m., the fire department reported. Exactly what caused the leak was not known Friday night.
