Do people treat you with the respect your position dictates? Do you sometimes wish people took you more seriously?

Blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah.

Well... very few people assume I deserve any. In a place full of very competitive corporate types, I'm an aging slacker with degrees in History and a job record as an academic. Not something that CPAs and MBAs and litigators think is worth anything but contempt.

I think its a "short and young-looking" issue. We Jens who are short and look young will look like perpetual undergrads (finally having graduated high school). The key is dress cool or dress up and speak directly. Which you already do.

I am finally working somewhere where I feel like I'm getting the respect I deserve. we'll see how long that lasts.

I am not sure I get any respect, but I am just as not sure what level I deserve. Since my position (grad student) is often in the gray area of no respect and negative levels of respect I guess I have nothing to complain about. Also, I am not sure why, but for some reason, people rarely take me seriously. Maybe these two are connected?

Since I work at a pre-Internet data processing company, the only way to be taken seriously around here is to be an eccentric genius. Everyone around here knows that real computer geniuses wear clothes from the 70's (not the retro kind), wear thick glasses, talk in overly long sentences with overly long words and know nothing outside the computer sciences. Management is thrilled that they've worked for our dull company for the past twenty or thirty years instead of using their great intellect to solve mankind's problems. If any young whipper-snappers dare to question these living Einsteins, guess whose side management takes?

The thing about being short and young looking -- that's very true. Seems, when you're short, exerting your wants requires a bit of pushy and bossy behavior at times. But, if women have one advantage over men when being cast into leadership roles it would definitely be in the short and cute category. A short guy has to be extremely assholish (like devito's character on taxi or any Pesci mobster movie) or very funny and generically likeable in a goofy kind of way (evidence any Micheal J. Foxx movie).

Since I am tall and good looking, (through no fault of my own), I am constantly looked at with resepect, profound awe and veneration. That is to say, I am looked at this way only when one poor ill-fated soul bravely dares to glance upwards from his face down prone position on the dirty street as the god Rudeboy passes by -- then he is stricken down for his insolence.... I AM YOUR GOD BOW DOWN BEFORE ME...OH CLEVER HANDSOME GOD OF AGES...RUDEBOY IS THY NAME!

Liberate yourself of all worldy possesions, retain only one pair of pink french cut bikini underwear, one pair of skin tight jeans, a half-cut midrift exposing grey sleeveless swetashirt and a ponytail clip. Follow me to the Oregon wilderness into the airstream of orgasmic happiness (no boys ('cept me) allowed - this rule strictly enforced)
