Trees in my yard. [trees]

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Folks, I'm sorry for posting about this so soon after doin so recently----however---while pik'n my banjer this evenin I was almost overwhelmed by the "feelin" of winter comin on. Oh it's warm enough today but it won't be too long until the first frost. I think Mr. Weatherman is callin for it by the end of next week. When I feel this "feelin" it makes for a bunch of fun. Pik'n bluegrass under the trees on a cool evenin while the wood fire is blazin away, the coffe pot simmerin, bluejays hollerin [they do that all the time anyhow]and the sounds of the instruments echoin throughout the many trees in my front and back yard. Pik'n even after dark can be a challange because it seems all we get done is re-tune. The cool night air with all it's humidity really works on a music box. After a little bit of this humid, cool weather the old fingers get cold! Notein becomes a challange too! I just love the smell of wood smoke and the "crack" of an old 5 string banjer along with a mandolin, guitar, fiddle and the thump thump of a dog house bass, echoin throughout the trees. Did somebody say that hillbillys don't know how to have fun or was it that hillbillys are not refined enough to enjoy the greater things of life. I think we have that aspect of country livin, cornered! Sept. 30 at Cades Cove, Tenneessee will be the old settlers homecoming. If'n you'rn so inclined c'mon down and brang you'rn instrument. You just might be so lucky???? to hear the old hootowl pik'n my Ode. Course, you might wanna bring you'rn earplugs too! Nuff daydreamin fer now rekon. S'pose orta fix a bologny sandwich with some pork/beans and think about changin strings on Ode'y! Matt. 24:44

Hey ole' Hoot, Don't apologize for your 'ramblings' as you call it. It is very enjoyable to read your postings, better than Foxfire any old day! Heck, you're still alive & we can pick your brain via the PC! I really enjoyed your post on fall (my favorite time of year) made me think of Grandpa & the good ole' days! Thank you, Jane
