wind generators in western WI?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

It seems to me the wind here is strong enough for generation. I'm not having any luck finding sites to answer total ignorance questions - Somebody please help! What do I need to know to start out? What kind of info do I need to know about my place to ask the correct questions? What are the starting questions, other than it better be cheap?

Judy- Try www.the-mrea.org. Its the widwest renewable energy site. They're located in Amherst,WI and have lot s of good resources. If you get a chance, check out their renewable energy fair each june, this year back in Amherst where it belongs.

Ditto on MREA. Mick Sagrillo is the president as well as a nationally recognized Wind NRG expert. You might want to check the archives of www.homepower.com also. Mick has written several articles and all facets of wind energy.

Hi, Judy,

Generally you need at least a consistent 10mph wind. If it's faster than that, it will give you WAY more power. Still, it's pretty expensive for the amount of power you're likely to get, unless you have really favorable conditions.

There's a cool store near my valley, called Energy Outfitters. They sell all sorts of alternative energy supplies, and Bob and Ray are very honest and helpful in telling you whether or not to buy a stuff. Here's there URL:

Good Luck!
