Just a thought Bob, did your well driller know that you intended to use a windmill for pumping? Around here if you don't communicate with the driller, they put in a smaller casing to be used with submersible pumps, and it is really too small for well cylinders.

For used windmills, check in an issure of The High Plains Journal. As I recall there is a dealer/refurbisher that advertises all of the time. If memory serves me, the dealer is out of Raymond, Ks. which is Northwest of Sterling. It's one of those towns that has a fraction for a zip code, so you may have to use http://maps.yahoo.com to find it.

There are quite a few windmills setting unused in Western Kansas. Might be worth a Sunday drive to try to connect with someone who is willing to sell one.

If you can't find an issue of The High Plains Journal, let me know, our local library carries a copy and I can look for you.

Harry Rose Windmill Service over in Girard KS used to sell mills not long ago.

I've got a Dempster Windmill pump, which came from Dempster Industries (?) in Beatrice, Nebraska. I got a new catalog not long ago, for y2k purposes, so I know they still sell stuff like that.

Around here, in Eastern Colorado, IF you can get someone to sell you one, they go for $1000 and up. Don't know why those old farmers are hanging on to them, a lot are just sitting there! Brother in law just bought a Demster for $1000 for his wife for an anniversary gift. Just a yard decoration for them, but would work if hooked to a well. Jan

Yes, Harry Rose, Jr. still sells windmills. Look for his feature article in the Jan/Feb issue.
