I have a Dalmatian and love the breed, so am naturally curious about the argument as to its true country of origin. Is there any proof that the breed may have come from Dalmatia? Are there many Dalmatian dogs in your country?

Of course. Croats, that is, people of Dalmatia, believe that. The proof ( one of ):

Dalmatian dog is a "relative" of some other Croatian dog breeds, like

• istrian hound
• istrian rough-haired hound
• posavski gonich (it's a hound)
• oldcroatian greyhound ( nearly extinct ).

For more details, You should look for recent literature from various international organizations that deal with dogs.
