I am about 99.9% sure it can still be ordered through Countryside. Contact them at csymag@tds.net. I'd bet if you asked them really nice Jd would authgraph it for you.

Hi Ken,

I called Countryside a few months ago. They don't have any copies left and it is out of print.

I was hoping to get hold of a used copy somewhere.

i am pretty sure it was in cs. month by month. if i can figure out which month it started in i can see if i have the whole story. i think it was in the late 80's and each issue had 1 or 2 chapters. anyone know what month and year it started?

Bummer! I loaned my copy to a ne'er-do-well and never got it back! Was hoping to order myself another copy!!!

I never heard of this -- what is it about? And, Judi, I learned the hard way a long time ago to NEVER loan out books unless the person was a VERY close and RELIABLE friend -- I've lost more of my favorite books that way!!

It has been several years since I've read my copy of "A Place Called Attar." Don't really know how to do a book review on it. Basically it takes place in Wisconsin. Civilization has reverted to 'Indian tribe level'. A coming ice age (glaciers) eventually force most to move south, with resistence by others. A lot of spiritualism and symbolism in the book. As far as I know it is Jd's only fictional work. He has about a dozen other books on homesteading subjects and some are considered to be classics in their field.

darren-where are you? If you're close, you can borrow my copy-if I can find it. LOL

I used www.bookfinder.com to find and order a copy. I got more results (for some unknown reason) by entering just Belanger for author (no initials). For the title, put in Place Called Attar. There are several copies available, but don't bother with the one from Powell's. That's the one I ordered -- I think they just haven't gotten it off the list yet. Good luck!
