What is the best survival soap?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Northern Survival ( http://www.northernsurvival.com ) is planning on offering soap at near cost to members but some soap facts are needed. What would be the best survival soap? What is the most common type of soap people prefer and what is entailed in obtaining a custom mold? Northern Survival will probably contract the work out to a small Canadian soap maker but would like a custom look.

I would imagine a non-scented castile type of soap would be the best-- it is very mild, and much less apt to cause rashes. If you get it double milled, it should last longer, too.

For marketing and humanitarian reasons, a vegetable based bar would be the most universally useable.

Thanks for your help on this question. Northern Survival will most likely introduce soap in 2001. For now you may be interested in the "for fun" part of the site if you are not into camping stuff. It is a collection of funny and interesting bits people have sent to me in the mail. Most find it hilarious. Check out the new look and content style at http://www.northernsurvival.com
