Well, there we were in the hunting camp--fire a roaring and writing on the web. Pretty soon ( about dusk) we walked out on the deer stand aka as the back porch. Right between that pile of apples and the salt lick stood this falls meat--less than 25 yards away ! Fired the ole 30/30 from the hip and sent the kids to drag it in and gut it--The rest was a lot of work.

Chuck if you like hunting stories you have to read the Patrick McMannus books I have given them as gifts and everyone who reads them gets hooked. You may have already run across these but I am amased at the maount of people who haven't.

Joel, that is too funny! Actually I don't know why I even looked on this thread 'cuz for about 3 mo. before hunting season I hear all the tales from last year.Then for the 3 mo. after season I hear all the new stories. This year he's travelling to Bayfield co. WI in search of the 30+ pointer! Right now he's getting ready to go duck hunting (opens here on Sat). Too bad he's scared to death of the computer or I'm sure he'd tell you a few stories (no exaggerations, ya right ;) There was the one year he got his picture in the paper when a reporter went hunting with him and his brother. His brother shot a 10 pointer, but somehow my hubby ended up in the picture with the deer.)
