Florida: Small Plane Crashes in Opa-Locka, Killing Two Men

The Associated Press

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (AP) - Two men were killed Saturday when their experimental plane crashed at Opa-locka Airport in north Miami-Dade County.

The 1999 Knowles-Thorp KT-18 plane crashed into a grassy area north of the airport at about 3:50 p.m. EDT Saturday, Miami-Dade Aviation spokesman Marc Henderson said.

"From what I've been told, the tower did not see it crash," Henderson said. "We don't yet know if they experienced any problems during takeoff or right before takeoff."

The Knowles-Thorp plane can be built at home, Henderson said, though he was not certain the plane that crashed was home-built.

Miami-Dade Police Department investigators didn not immediately make public the victims' names.
