NZ: Ozone hole may affect South Island

National Institute for Water and Atmospheric
Research scientist Richard McKenzie said a
mass of ozone-poor air east of New Zealand
was likely to pass over the country in two to
three weeks, sending ultra-violet radiation
soaring.

. . .

"The problem hasn't gone away and we are
expecting intense ultra-violet levels in
New Zealand because depletion in Antarctica
has been severe," Dr McKenzie said.
