"Dairy Scrub" Where can I find it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

In a thread a few weeks ago some readers were talking about making a low cost, germicidal, non smelling dish liquid from a type of dairy cleaning soap that comes in gallon or five gallon containers. I posted a response asking for more info on the product but got no answers. I've called all our local coop and farm supply stores and no one has it or anything like it. I even stopped by a local dairy and asked the manager and he had never heard of it. If anyone knows a brand name for this "dairy scrub" or an address of a manufacturer please post them.

Hoegger Supply has 3 different dairy soaps that might be what you are looking for. Their catalog is very extensive and interesting, giving alot of hints about goat raising and milking. They carry only caprine supplies and your post doesn't specify goat or cow, but I'm sure they could point you in the right direction. Their # 1 800 221- 4698. They are open Mon. through Sat. 8:00am to 6:00pm. Hope this helps.

Rags, I must have missed that one. There are things like (?)Novaslan you can get through a vet or farm supply, possibly the elevator. Dairy disinfectants are supposed to be fairly non-toxic, yet effective, so you might even find them at a pet store with a good cage bird section. Those folks use the stuff to disinfect their cages. Without knowing what the original post was about, I'm guessing that dairy disinfectant possibly mixed with a dairy safe soap was what the solution was. Gerbil

Not what you are looking for but I did see the coolest product in the Hoards Dairyman Magazine (I read mine at the University Library) they are cattle size dairy wipes in a big container like the wet-ones from the grocery store for babies (which I use for the goats). Between that and the Fight Back spray on teat dip, sure makes milking time easier! Vicki

I got mine at Tractor Supply in town. I think Tractor Supply also has a catalog that you can order stuff from. It really wasn't that expensive. I think it was $5.99 for a gallon. I don't think Quality Farm & Fleet had it...
