A Question about Herbs?

Hi! I wanted to know what kind of herbs are good for beginners to grow indoors in containers. Is there certain kinds that are easier than others. Any help would be great. Thanks again. Karen in NC

I'd suggest the best kind of herbs for a beginner to grow indoors in containers is something that you'll use. For instance, do you use chives, rosemary, basil, thyme, etc. in cooking? Those are some of the basics that are pretty easy to grow in a windowsill container situation. Don't start with something that you're not going to use. Pick out a few, get a couple of small containers and follow the directions on the packages for planting. Use them fresh, if possible, and if you like it, while those are growing research others. Good luck and enjoy.

I started my first herb garden in a 4 ft plastic window box in my kitchen. Planted parsley, sage, oregano and chives. It worked for me and it added character to our apartment that we were in then.

I had good luck with spicy globe basil, rosemary(Let it take a couple of light frosts first bf bring in- seems to condition it) oregano& parsley. Lemon balm, chives, and salad burnet are candidates, but here they stay green thru the winter mostly, so what's the point?

i agree with the others, what you like is most important! And basil is great! There are so many things you can do with it. I'd like to add mint to the list. It grows very easily and even though I really don't care for it too much, when you have an upset stomach it is quite a blessing.
