Where are you again renee? I know from a vet. med. viewpoint we are using samples drawn from area horses and chickens to monitor movement. So far our area is still clean, but I am sure it is on the way. I am in Southern Ontario, 1hr north of Detroit, Mi.

There have been several dead crows found in southern NH with the West Nile virus, so it is spreading north.

marci,we are in northern maryland, the dept. of ag. is going on a big sraying event in areas where dead birds are found. my did ? is most of the areas are in the city where you would be more likely to find a dead bird.where we are there could be lots of dead birds and no one would find them . i worry about the pony and chickens , i have heard horses catch it real easy.

Read in the paper last week that one dead crow found in Virginia has tested positive for West Nile.

I could be wrong, but I think I read that it's been found in almost every county in NY state. They found a bird two blocks from here recently, and dumped some kind of stuff in all the sewers, to keep the insect larvae (sp?) from hatching.

According to a recent newspaper article, New York State's chief wildlife pathologist, Ward Stone, believes the West Nile virus will spread across the U.S. over the next couple of years. More varieties of mosquitos have been found to be able to transmit the virus, and enough are surviving over the winter to spread it in the spring.

A good source of information is at the NYS Dept. of Health website: www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/westnile/index.htm

Israel has had a big problem with the virus. According to a newspaper article, 3,300 geese were destroyed at a farm in southern Israel after some of the birds died of the disease. Because the article mentioned that most flocks have been vaccinated against the virus, I emailed a request for information about the vaccine to the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture a couple of weeks ago. To date, I've had no response, but they have other problems right now. The short article was the only place I've seen any mention of a vaccine.

It's infected some of the people in VA too.

Verified in Chatham county in NC (that's north/central). Pretty sure that's what we (my work site team) all had last month. Lots of mosquitos and all of us came down with a mild flu-like illness which cleared up quickly, but left us all feeling fine until we did anything, at which point we quickly became tired and breathlessly exhausted. This continued for a few days, then all was well. Guess now we are all semi-immune from exposure. Any one else come down with it?

Heard on the news the other morning that a dead crow was found in prince Edward county here in south central VA, near to Farmville who had died from the west nile virus. I guess we need to think about this one. might be the situation where it is worse than the aids if they don't do something soon.
