i am looking in particular for any information of chinese women that were brought to san fransisco as mail order brides. I believe this is what the historical name for them was, but I am not sure.

hmm... not sure if they were called mail order brides back then. in hawaii, during that period these type of brides were reffered to as picture brides - because you picked them from a catalog of pictures. it was very very common in hawaii in the late 1800s, tho i've never actally heard of picture brides in SF - but it wouldn't suprise me. you might want to expand your search to include the term picture brides.
