Carter and Chen interaction

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I've always loved Chen, even way back in season one. And I love it when she and Carter interact. In "Mars Attack" I though it was very sweet how Carter reacted to seeing her. No smart comments, just sweet and surprised. I really hope to see more interaction between these two in episodes to come.

Heh heh. And snarky Carter when Dave was inquiring more about her...[paraphrasing here]

Dave: Hey Carter, you knew Jing-Mei from way back when. Carter: (in a dry and irritated voice) I knew her back before she was Jing-Mei.

Heh.

Oh yeah, I got a question, actually. When Deb and Carter at one point, what did she say to him before she reached over to play with his tie? I can't remember, don't got it on tape, and it's really boterhing me. If anyone can help, I'd be most appreciative.

Well, it wasn't much, Cater said: Looks like I've missed a few things when I was away. Deb: Yeah. C: So how far a long are you? D: 24 weeks. C:...and was this planned or... D: No, not particularly. You know, I gotta run. That was pretty much it. :o) Hope I could help.

I really loved Carter's reaction to Deb's little predicament too. He sounded so shocked and he reminded me of the "old" Carter. I liked this eppy alot. This was one of the episodes where I wasn't bored. Except at the end with Cleo and Peter.....

I totally agree...and I loved Carter's 'I'm not going to say anything to you Malluchi but I *am* going to give you a "maybe, maybe not" look...referring to Malluchi asking if anything ever went on between them. I laughed so hard at Carter's look and Malluchi's urging...I am loving these interactions. Carter and Chen were very sweet to each other, and I loved how happy Carter was...I think he will be able to relax Chen about all of this. Although it kind of shocked me how big she got in a week, and how Kerry was inquiring just last week about why she didn't tell her...*look* at her!

Kimmy, I totally agree with eveything you said...I enjoyed just about every scene, except the one you were talking about. Poor Cleo, I just don't know how to like her.

I loved Carter and Chen in this episode too! I hope they have more scenes together as well... they were both so sweet. I think Carter will help Deb and Deb will help Carter. Malluchi was really funny. He was very inquisitive about Chen... I think in most of his scenes, he had something to say about Chen and her baby; asking what she was going to name the baby, asking Carter if anything ever went on between them, then asking when they were going to meet the father of her baby... he was very curious. I like these interactions too, they are hilarious. My next comment/question doesn't really have anything to do with this thread but does anyone want to venture a guess as to who the father of Chen's baby is after watching this episode?

Come on, isn't it quite obvious it isn't Dave or Carter or Romano.

It's most likely Frank the nurse.

It sure did seem that Deb was a lot more confident with her pregnancy this week. Last week she was upset, worried, hurting. This week, she was able to play off inquiries from both Romano and Malucci without much more than a glare and handle questions (sweet and gentle as they were) from Carter. And she's obviously not try to cover up her belly with oversized clothes.

Here's a good question for you:

Since Dr. Coburn is so busy up in OB taking care of all the other patients (since there doesn't seem to be another OB doctor anywhere) who would wind up delivering Chen's baby in the ER? Since that seems to be where everyone delivers.

Dr. Carter? Dr. Malucci? (That would be a defining moment for those two) Dr. Benton? Dr. Greene?

-- Laura (ulaks@goldengate.net), October 30, 2000.

I think this should be reserved for anyone but Greene, he was there with Carol, it would be sort of Great Expectations all over again, specially if there are (and knowing ER there will be) problems during the birth.

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), October 30, 2000.

I would like a nice normal delivery, but as that probably won't happen I could see Abby delivering, Carter or Kerry. Greene doesn't have good luck with delivering babies. I could see Chen going into labor while she is at work...you know, working with a patient and having her water break. I'm sure by the time that Chen has her baby it will be the Ob/ Gyn's departments turn for some conference.

Speaking of pregnancies, did anyone think Alex Kingston looked pregnant when she was in the lounge with Mark and Carter? Her coat was open and you could see her waistline ... baggy scrubs maybe, but I thought she was showing. And when she stood up, she held a chart in front of her middle.

-- Cindy (tailchasers51@hotmail.com), October 30, 2000.

No, I don't think Alex was showing yet. It was just the scrubs. As of 2 weeks ago she said she still wasn't showing yet (she's a little over 4 months along). "Mars Attacks" was filmed in mid-August.

Actually, Deb is the lucky winner of a delivery up in OB.

Well, with JLS's confirmation, I am relieved to hear she will most likely have a normal pregnancy, up in OB, and I was suspecting they wouldn't do this again. I absolutely loved Carol in Great Expectations, but I thought it was too dramatic, and hope they don't go too far with Deb. What they *could* do to make it more interesting is have Carter be her coach! I would be SO happy with that. Carter could be the one to make her happy about the fact that she's having a baby. (SPOILER...though isn't she going to later consider adoption, or is that idea gone?) Though I agree with Laura that if they did have her deliver in the ER, Dave delivering it would be a good moment for them.

Although I love Dave, his persistence in asking her so many questions ("You do *know* who the father is?") seemed rude and I wished he hadn't gone *that* far. It was funny, but there is a line.

JLS, you DO realize that once you post a spoiler (warning or not), people are basically forced to read it if they want to go on reading the rest of the thread? (because the whole topic scrolls down on one page) sigh... trying to avoid spoilers... they just keep popping up everywhere...

-- Tracy (bankybooda@aol.com), October 30, 2000.

Aw heck Tracy, just close your eyes after the spoiler alerts! :) Don't be discouraged JLS...I love a good spoiler now and again.

-- ELyons (Elyons@msl.net), October 30, 2000.

It's nice to know that at least one baby will actually be delivered in the OB. I like the idea of having Carter be her coach, but I think it would be nice for us to see her ask someone. JLS wanted to let you know that you are the spoiler queen. Don't know where or how you get them, but thank you :)

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), October 30, 2000.

First I want to know what the heck is going on with the board here? I haven't been able to get on here for the past two days. I have a modem cable so I usually get on quick. Now I see that others have been able to get through because some posted this past weekend. What is going on? I think Carter will help Chen and will hopefully be her coach. I mean they're such good friends I can't imangine him not being ther for her at that time.

There's an article in next week's TV Guide about Ming-Na. She didn't get pregnant on purpose either (in the article she says that condoms aren't 100% effective). She was worried about bringing her pregnancy to TPTB and thought they'd hide her behind counters and such if they didn't let her go, but they were really excited and said she'd "slept her way" into a great story line, which she was very (of course) evasive about. Her baby is due November 10th and she's working up to the week before. There was some indication that the father's identity would be a surprise. I'm going by memory here and if anything else comes to mind that's important, I'll let you know.

okay i am a little lost here--someone please straighten me out-which pregnancies are real and which are fake? deb chen's or elizabeth...

-- Dawn Stinson (qstnevrythng@hotmail.com), November 01, 2000.

Both Ming-Na and Alex Kingston are pregnant in real life.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), November 01, 2000.

I'm telling you, its the water...
