Open Shows & Color in Shih Tzus

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shih-Tzu Talkshop : One Thread

It took me sometime but I finally got on so I am commenting on two subjects at once instead of seperatly.

Since I am used to AKC shows what are open shows?

I have bred blacks, gold with black mask, silver & white, gold & white and just about any color you can get in a shih tzu. I am particularly interested in solid colors. I do not find any personality differences in the colors. I do find differences in the boys and girls. I find the boys are really sweet and more atentive then the girls.

It is so interesting reading all the information from the different countries. It is all so new to me and I have so much to learn on how you do your shows overseas.

Welcome Sheila! (:o)

I`m delighted you managed to post (Greenspun seems to have been having all manner of problems this weekend!)

So you have an interest in solids? The first time I went to the States was Minneapolis, and as a first impression, it seemed to me that the solids, and I`m thinking solid black here, were of a more `old-fashioned` type. A bit stockier, longer in the back etc. I don`t think it was just and illusion created by the colour. That was 4/5 years ago, and since then have seen some stunning black dogs over there.

As for boys v girls, my boys are most definately more affectionate, in fact they are positively soppy!!!

I will give you the run down on our different types of shows later this morning, when I`ve had my second cup of coffee!

Sheila, I know everybody will be very interested to know more about you, so how about a quick potted history? (:o)

Boy this time I got right thru. I guess greenspan is not so busy at 3:30 a.m. (CA time.)

I was in MN also. In general the solids seem to be more on the old fashioned side. I tend to like a old fashion type verses the ones out there these days. I do not mean the real long backs short leg types. I like the big headed solid body type. These days I find the shih tzu is to long legged not enough body and small heads with no cush. It is almost like they are breeding poodle type. They even put the head up like a poodle. Well that is my opion anyway.

As for something about me: I was born in Kansas raised in Giessen Germany and came to the states to stay in 1968. I have been a all breed groomer for 32 years, owned a all breed (for 225 dogs and 50 cats) commercial boarding kennel for 17 years. I sold the kennel 3 years ago and moved to Palm Springs California. I now raise birds and own a 17 yr old M silver & white, 11 yr old black M, 5 yr old gold & white F, 5 yr old black & white M, 3 yr old gold & white F (whod has 3 puppies right now) shih tzu, 3 chihuahuas and 2 boxers. I have owned shih tzu since 1972. I belong to several all breed clubs and am president of the Shih Tzu Fanciers of Southern California. I am currently licensed to judge Shih Tzu, Italian Greyhounds, Pomeranians, Maltese and Juniors and am currently getting ready to apply for more breeds.

I am looking forward to finding out more on how your shows work. I have shown and been a stewart at some of the Interational Shows here but your shows are definatly different. So far I am planning to go to the World Show in Germany in a couple of years if all goes well. I do want to go to Crufts sometime also. Oh well I can dream.

Could the members of the list give a little information about themselves also so I could meet them?

Brigitte - good to hear from you!!!

This is the first time since early this morning that I have managed to get onto the Talkshop. I was hoping it was to do with adverse weather conditions in the UK - boy are we suffering with the storms here in the South!! I am a bit concerned about how difficult it is lately to get on to this site, so my daughter (bless her heart) has been looking for an alternative site, in case this site goes `belly up` so to speak! She`s found one or two possibles, which I shall keep in reserve for future use, should we need them. Well, it`s bedtime for me too - and the rain has decided to fall in sheets again - no chance of us having water shortages next year!!! Just down the road from us they are battening down the hatches and awaiting tonight`s high tide - I don`t envy them!!!

Speak to you all tomorrow. (:o)
