Looking for Info on Meridan (Meridian?) LF cameras.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I ran across a thread recently that mentioned this camera, and I wanted to find out more details about it; Such as, was this the manufacturer name or model name, it's specifications, period and place of manufacture, and abilities as a LF camera. Supposedly it had more going for it than a Super Graphic as a press type camera. A search on Eboy-ng didn't turn up anything.

Here's a link to an article: http://graflex.org/articles/meridian/

If the article doesn't say so, it was built in the late 40's in New York for a dealer in two versions.

I have a 45b (the 2nd version). Mine didn't have the finder and was definitely well used requiring a good cleaning and fabrication of a few parts.

It is a bit more versatile than a Super Graphic and has many features of the Technika III. IMHO it's a little more crudely built than either of the above but still useable; it's just not as pleasureable to use or look at as the Linhof.

Cheers,

Look up http://graflex.org/articles/meridian/ for a review of the Meridian 45A. Look up http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~qtluong/photography/lf/meridian/meridian.h tml for a review of the 45B. I personally think they are pretty wonderful cameras. Cheers, DJ.

Look also at the Busch Pressman Model D. Very well built but no Graflok back. Not quite a Super Speed Graphic but more generous movements than Speed or Crown Graphic.
