McCollum Plane Forced to Make Unscheduled Landing Near Marianna The Associated Press

MARIANNA, Fla. (AP) - An airplane carrying Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bill McCollum and two campaign aides made an unscheduled landing in the Panhandle Tuesday after pilots discovered oil on the wings. The two pilots landed the King Air plane on a landing strip near Marianna. No one was injured, said McCollum spokeswoman Shannon Gravitte, who was on the plane.

McCollum was coming from a breakfast appearance with former President Bush in Fort Walton Beach. He had planned to join Bush, former first lady Barbara Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at a rally in Orlando Tuesday evening but was unable to make it. His wife, Ingrid, spoke in his place.

Marianna is located in Jackson County, about 70 miles west of Tallahassee, near the Alabama border.

Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan, his son and a campaign adviser were killed earlier this month when a small plane they were in crashed near St. Louis.
