Everyday Blessings. [stories]

While drivin down the road yesterday I was reminded of the Blessings we enjoy everyday and take'm for granted most of the time. We were installin a wood boiler and needed some more fittings that I'd failed to take along with us. Went to a neighboring town and bought a couple pipe bushings [1 1/2" to 1 1/4"] and was robbed by the store owner. Paid over $10 for both of'm and was kinda aggravated because I'd been robbed but with no other options had to take'm. Headin back, rather angry I noticed a farm that was so beautiful that I did a "double take". A nice house settin on a hillside surrounded by trees and white board fence. Inside the pasture was some horses grazing lazily and in no hurry to scurry around. Made me think of my own life--don't get into much of a hurry just to prove a point. Driving down the highway just a little bit further I noticed several other farms all adorned like the previous one. They were really pleasing to the eye and I realized that even when I'm lookin for works of His mighty Hands many times they go un-noticed. His blessings don't always encompass the surrounding hillsides covered with beautiful trees, lakes, streams or even mountains. These are most common eye pleasing blessings but absolutely not all! I don't like traffic, big crowds, cities or even towns. Rekon I'm a hillbilly for sure but I stil enjoyed those beautiful farms yesterday. Oh, BTW, today I'm resting after a very tiring day yesterday. Those blessings made me completely forget about being robbed for those pipe fittings but then again, the blessings of those beautiful farms were worth ten times what I'd spent! Matt. 24:44

Its lovely to notice the beauty that is always around us, if we would only keep our eyes open to it, isnt it? I'm wondering if perhaps you forgot to look hard for the beauty in the store-owner as well. Maybe he treated you rudely,in which case its always more difficult to do! However, before assuming you were 'robbed', is it possible that you are not aware of how much he has to pay for his supplies, in order to be able to offer them to you? I personally would rather pay ten times more for most anything from a local merchant, to help keep small towns alive and flourishing, than pay a pittance to support the possibility of Wal-Mart or some such moving in and destroying the local economy. Earthmama! Yeppie! I considered the price he has to pay--I was robbed! He was not rude at all, in fact was rather pleasant to deal with. This was also in a small town with no competition around within 20 miles or so. I buy from a small, family owned hardware near my home and pay $1.20 each for the same pipe fittings. The one I bought from was a national known brand name. I've also bought from the same brand name store before also and was never charged nearly as much their either. As far as not noticing the beauty around us, I think we are so busy running around that we fail to look at ALL His Creation sometimes. At any rate, I'm so glad I live where I do and am Blessed to find such beauty around. The trees are absolutely beautiful now and as far as wintertime coming--the snows will be just as nice to look at too. Matt. 24:44

Hoot, thanks for the story, isn't it funny how God can open our eyes just when we need to be distracted from our current thoughts. When I walk I am atonished by the beauty of where we live.

Hoot, I just want to tell you I always enjoy readin' your posts. I love the way you write just like you would talkto folks if you were sittin' right across from 'em. I do the same much of the time. I was wondering....where 'bouts do you live? Sounds like a beautiful part of God's country from the way you've described it in many of your posts. All the best to you.

Hey Green! I'll try answerin again. First time apparently did't post. Southeastern Illinois, Richland County, Noble township, down a dead end road [Countryside Lane] right next to the Little Muddy River bottoms. Lil Dumplin [my life's mate and wife for over 30 years] live in an Amish built modular on our "borrowed" 24 acres and are surrounded by trees, birds and wild game. To us it's the most beautiful place around. Of course, that's not exactly true but I guess that Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"! The handiwork of Almighty God is all around us and I'd sure hate to move away from all our "trees, birds and wild game"! Thanks for askin! hoot, the big illinois hillbilly, gibson. Matt. 24.44
