Plastics plant blast kills two

An explosion at a plastics plant in South Korea killed two people and sent another 41 to hospital on Thursday.

The blast happened at about 5 p.m. local time, and firefighters struggled into the evening to try to free the last workers trapped in the rubble.

The plant in the industrial city of Ansan was operated by the Tanil Chemical Co. Ansan is about 50 kilometres southwest of Seoul.

After the explosion, the plant and another nearby factory were engulfed in flames.

No one seems to know yet what caused the blast.

Early media reports said toxic gases may have escaped after the explosion.
