Was Savage and Son, 137 Fremont St. S.F., the firearms manufacturer? This address is from a building and business in existence before the earthquake of'06. The building may have been destroyed and the business closed, rebuilt or relocated?? Thanks.

There was a Savage and Son iron foundry (also known as the Empire Foundry) active in San Francisco at least as early as 1872, originally at 145 Beale and 220 Howard, and by 1876 (and at least until 1879, the last year checked in my notes) at 141 Fremont.

I have a referance to them making railroad car parts for Kimaball Carriage Co for a train of RR cars in 1872.
