I notice that my Hexanon 135/3.2 has a post rather than a plate beside the aperture lever. What does that say with respect to compatibility?

Mine does too - it works well with my T, T3, TC-X, FS-1, and FT-1 So I guess that it means nothing relative to compatibility. It is there (like the "plates") to set the maximum aperture display.
