UAE Bstill has spare oil production capacityB

Fujairah | By A Staff Reporter | 08-11-00 | Print This The UAE has the ability to open the oil taps further and raise output if required by the market, Obaid bin Saif Al Nasiri, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said yesterday.

"We can cope with an extra (Opec) output quota, and will do so if market conditions require," he said on the sidelines of an oil bunkering conference. But he did not say how much excess capacity the UAE has. He also urged strict environmental policies to preserve the coastline and desert heritage. "More important than the controls, implementation is essential," he said.
