The Samaritan's Purse is starting it's annual Christmas shoebox run, and nows the time to jump in. Here's the deal: you fill a shoebox with small, useful items (toothbrush/paste, school supplies, etc) and a small toy or two (no war toys, PLEASE) and the SP people send these boxes to children in need all over the world. The website samaritanspurse.org has a list of do's and don't's for gift giving and a list of contacts where you can find out about drop sites. They collect only for a few weeks, and they start any day now, so hop to it! ANyone can go to the Dollar Tree or similar store and fill a shoebox or two for very little cash layout, and it may be the only present some of these kids have ever gotten, or will ever get. A native-language version of the Christmas story is included in every gift, so that the child understands the real meaning of Christmas. Please give and thanks.

Soni, Thanks for sharing that info. Have been looking for a way to teach our granddaughter, whom we are raising, to think of others this holiday season, and this might be a good way to do that. There is a drop off site in Colorado Springs, so we can manage that part of it, too. Thanks again, and God Bless! Jan

Soni, thanks for the reminder. I had planned to do that this year and almost forgot! I will do it now. A couple of years ago I saw a tape of Franklin Graham giving out the shoe box to some of those children and it was so rewarding to see their excitement. Many of them I'm sure had never received a gift. What a small thing we can give and after all that is what Christmas is about - celebrating the birth of our Jesus by giving to those in need.
