I've got a Sony Vaio workstation with Firewire built in and a DV deck. Has anyone used DV and Firewire as a source for their VCD/SVCD making?

Am I better of copying my VHS tapes to DV and then capturing the DV directly, or should I just get an analog capture card, like an All-In-Wonder?

If you've used DV to make a VCD, I'd really appreciate hearing exactly what you did to do it (especially if it was a Vaio!)
