Heres my grandmothers mix .

3 egg yolks 1/4 cup sugar 2 cups milk 2 cups light cream 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 teaspoon rum extract 1 teaspoon brandy extract 1/8 teaspoon salt nutmeg

beat egg yolks and sugar in large bowl until light and fluffy. blend in remaining ingredients. chill . top each serving with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg.

(theres a note in my grandfathers scrawl at the bottom: use 1 jigger of rum and 1 jigger of brandy, whiskey or vodka if extracts not available)

I think jigger means about 1 ounce.

I've been making this recipe for the last 8 years.( as long as i've been maried.) 1 c. sugar , 8 egg yolks , 1 gal. milk, 8 egg whites , 12 TBSP. sugar , 2 tsp. vanilla Beat 1 c. sugar into egg yolks. Stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly till it coats a spoon ( about 1 hour ) Cool. Beat egg whites till foamy. Gradually add 12 TBSP. sugar, beating to soft peaks. Add to the custard mix and mix well. Add vanilla. Chill. This takes a bit of time , but is very good. I like the fact that the eggs are cooked. Hope you enjoy! sherry in south central IN

Who is this crazy woman who keeps using my e-mail address? Sorry wife. This is very good eggnog with the exception that it take a while to make it so I don't get it very often, and yes I help stir
