Gene: I haven't tried this, but in a book by Yankee Magazine I have, they recommend soaking a fresh stain in 1/2 teaspoon salt to 1 cup cold water, rubbing as necessary, then laundering. Older stains call for an initial soaling in a solution of 2 Tablespoons of ammonia per gallon of cold water. Wash in cold water and dishwashing liquid to remove any traces of the stain after the ammonia treatment. For larger items like blankets, that you prefer not to have to wash the entire item: make a past of cornstarch and wter and slather it onto the stain. Let dry, brush off and keep repeating until the stain has disappeared. Good luck! Jan

My Grandmother (who was a nurse for 35 years) always poured hydrogen peroxide directly on the bloody fabric. I use it on all fabrics and it hasn't hurt any as of yet! After the peroxide works it's "magic" I rinse with cool water or wash as directed. Good luck!

I'm with Debbie on the peroxide, I use it all the time. It is safe enough, even my younger boys can pretreat their own clothes, and it works!! I like the gel peroxide, it gets down in and stays in the fiber better for a better stain removal.

Gene my granny taught me to soak blood stains in cold water....warm water will set the stain. After soaking rub a little soap on it and rub like crazy. It's always worked for me.

Cold water with ammonia works for me. Soak it for about an hour or so. I find this safer on coloured items than H. peroxide, but I'd use peroxide on whites. I've heard some people swear by Adolph's meat tenderizer (probably the papain does it).

Sounds like your cat has an abcess. It usually starts as a puncture wound which scabs over, and festers underneath until it "explodes" blood and pus. You better check it out, they can be really nasty. You've got lots of knowledgeable "cat people" here!!

Milk works great too, soak the spots or whole thing for a few minutes and rinse.

Emergency room nurses at the hospital where I work told me hydrogen peroxide works great. (And they get blood on their clothes more often than most of us!)

I have used hydrogen peroxide and monosodium glumanate (meat tenderizer) to break down blood stains in fabrics.

I have also used peroxide but have found that bleach works well also. You can soak the whole sheet, if it is white, or just do the spot with a little of bleach and it should do the trick. I use bleach for everything from laundry to sink cleaning and even on goats for ring worm when necessary. (diluted of course). Good Luck !!!!

I use dry bleach..the cheapest no name brand you can find..works for me..have tried the peroxide and the dry bleach does better for me as I am a "bleeder" from way back.. I use the Always Save brand.
