My DVD in my beigeG3 died. All the CDroms for macs are so expensive? Can I get one for PCs and make it work?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mac Troubleshooting : One Thread

I have a beige G3 and it had a really early DVD drive. This has stopped reading CDs correctly and I'd like to just replace it with a CDRom but the ones that are sold as Mac compatible are A.) Rare and B.) expensive. I also don't have a USB card or capabilities. I am running OS8.5

Any recommendations on using a PC made CD Rom drive and having it work with the regular CDrom drivers from Apple?

Thanks,

Kim

My Dad just bought a QPS Que!Drive SCSI CD/R for about $250.00. Or is that what you mean by expensive?
